This volume contains all the papers delivered by the participants of the conference arranged in the order of their presentatoin, by session. These papers presents the ideas and experiences of experts in the various fields related to the use of attenuated virusses in vaccination against poliomyelitis. It presents the existing scientific knowledge, as of June 1959, on the vaccine strains being used in programs throughout the world The First International Conference on Live Poliovirus Vaccines was held in Washington, D.C. 22-26 June 1959 and was sponsored by the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization, with the cooperation of the Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation
