The initiative for these studies arose out of a PAHO/WHO line of technical cooperation seeking to strengthen the processes involved in formulating national policies on health-related research and technological development These five studies were financed by the PAHO/WHO Grants Program. This feature was also published in Spanish in the BOSP. Vol. 114(2):142-57, 1993
