Regional Update, Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses. Epidemiological Week 1 (10 January 2025) 

Abstract

[WEEKLY SUMMARY]. Regional Situation: Influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) activity has shown a significant increase in North America, driven by the circulation of RSV and influenza. In other subregions, a general decline has been observed. SARS-CoV-2 activity continues to decrease in most subregions, except in Brazil, the Southern Cone, and the Andean region, where an upward trend has been noted. Influenza activity has increased in North America and the Caribbean, as well as in some countries within the Andean region and the Southern Cone. Lastly, RSV activity remains high in certain Caribbean countries and territories, though it is declining, while continuing to rise and remain elevated in North America.

[RESUMEN SEMANAL]. Situación regional: La actividad de Enfermedad Tipo Influenza (ETI) e Infección Respiratoria Aguda Grave (IRAG) ha mostrado un marcado incremento en América del Norte, asociado a la circulación de VRS e influenza. En el resto de las subregiones, se ha presentado una tendencia general a la baja. La actividad de SARS-CoV-2 continúa en descenso en la mayoría de las subregiones excepto en Brasil, el Cono Sur y la subregión Andina donde se ha observado una tendencia ascendente. En cuanto a la influenza, se ha registrado un aumento en América del Norte y el Caribe, así como en algunos países de la subregión Andina y el Cono Sur. Finalmente, la actividad del Virus Respiratorio Sincitial (VRS) sigue siendo alta en algunos países y territorios del Caribe, aunque con una tendencia decreciente y continúa en ascenso y con niveles elevados en América del Norte.
