The Report on the biennium 2022-2023: Building back better A resilient pathway to health equity in access to vaccine and health supplies, from the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Regional Revolving Funds (RRFs) highlights significant milestones in promoting equitable access to essential vaccines, medicines, and public health supplies across the Americas. In 2023, the Revolving Fund for Access to Vaccines and the Strategic Fund for Public Health Supplies became part of the RRFs special program, bringing together two critical initiatives under a single inter-programmatic umbrella. This integration represents a major step forward in PAHO’s comprehensive approach to health system strengthening, supported by technical areas such as Communicable Diseases, Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, Comprehensive Immunization, Innovation, Access to Medicines, and Health Technologies, as well as administrative sectors like Procurement and Legal.
The RRFs are crucial technical cooperation mechanisms designed to enable timely, equitable, and cost-effective access to life-saving vaccines, essential medicines, and other health supplies. Through pooled procurement, Member States can plan demand collectively and benefit from economies of scale, which ensures affordable pricing, improved predictability, and uninterrupted supply chains.
The Report on the biennium 2022-2023 consolidates the achievements of the past two years, capturing the impact of the RRFs across different disease areas and countries. Through a collection of stories, it showcases how countries in the region have used the RRFs to combat communicable and noncommunicable diseases, strengthen immunization programs, and enhance their overall public health response. These stories highlight the importance of continued collaboration, demand planning, and pooled procurement in ensuring that quality health supplies reach those in need throughout the Americas, improving health outcomes across the region.
