As a flagship campaign since 2002, Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) has become a catalyst for immunization throughout the Region of the Americas. This 21st Vaccination Week in the Americas Report chronicles all the activities carried out in the Americas and highlights the successes, important messages, and breakthroughs that bring public health through immunization to all. Under the slogan "Get up-to-date. #EachVaccineCounts", the 21st VWA was held from 22-29 April 2023, which this year sought to revitalize national immunization programs by giving them preeminence on the political agenda, as well as to recover and maintain the regional objectives of control and elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases. Over the past 20 years, VWA has been a regional strategy that has complemented the efforts of national immunization programs. Since its inception, more than 1 billion people of all ages have been vaccinated under the VWA umbrella. In 2023, VWA also sought to promote confidence building in the safety and effectiveness of all vaccines at any age and to increase efforts to sustain polio elimination in the Region and support global eradication commitments. The goal of the campaign has been to raise awareness of the vaccines that people of all ages should receive and thereby increase vaccination coverage, which in the last decade has declined among children worldwide and most sharply in the Americas. The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Jarbas Barbosa, inaugurated the 21st Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) by calling on the general public to get up-to-date on vaccination, while raising awareness about the impact of immunization on health and disease prevention.
