REDIPRA 17. Regional Plan for the Elimination of Canine Rabies 2024-2030

Abstract

This document offers an update for the action plan for the elimination of canine rabies in the countries of the Americas for the 2024 – 2030 period, suggesting coordination elements at all levels, with a special focus on mechanisms that guarantee the commitment of political authorities and health sponsors and the management of share responsibility of all players at intra- and inter-institutional levels. The update recognizes that this political commitment should be maintained beyond the elimination of canine rabies and human cases to prevent the reintroduction of the disease and be reflected in the creation of sustainable structures and mechanisms. This plan of action is primarily focused on human rabies transmitted by dogs and recognizes the magnitude of the problem of rabies in other species of wild and production animals.
