The WHO Mental Health Atlas is the best-known and most comprehensive resource for information on mental health resources globally. It aims to provide up-to-date information on the existence of mental health services and resources, including mental health policies and legislation, financing, the availability and utilization of mental health services and human resources, and mental health promotion and prevention. This 2020 edition of the Mental Health Atlas of the Americas, based on data from 2018 to 2020, is an important compilation of information on mental health systems in the Member States of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). During the unprecedented time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for mental health care and support is even more important than ever before. As COVID-19 continues to impact the mental health of populations and much-needed mental health services in the Americas, it is essential that countries in the Region utilize data from the Mental Health Atlas 2020 to advocate for strengthening and scaling up mental health resources and services in order to address the immediate and long-term mental health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and to build back better mental health systems for the future.
