Abstract
In order to measure the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on human resources for health (HRH), it is necessary to have appropriate, reliable and timely information, which informs the planning of the response to future health emergencies and the allocation of resources. This report analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on health personnel in five countries (Bolivia [Plurinational State of], Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru) and systematizes the policies and strategies they adopted to address related challenges. This information provides evidence and helps set priorities in line with the goal of protecting the health workforce throughout the Region of the Americas. Likewise, it highlights the need to increase investment in HRH with a view to strengthening the resilience of health systems, ensuring their continuity and optimal functioning, and guaranteeing access and coverage for the population.
