Respiratory Protection Program for Healthcare Workers
Abstract
Healthcare facilities contain airborne contaminants that can put the health of healthcare workers at risk. Control measures are needed to eliminate or mitigate these risks. This training manual addresses aspects of a respiratory protection program for hospitals and other healthcare settings, with a focus on personal protection through correct use of respirators. The manual is arranged into four illustrated training modules, which address respiratory hazards in the healthcare setting, respiratory protection, the respiratory protection program, and respirator fit testing and use. A set of practice questions is included to check the understanding of training participants. The training manual is intended for infection preventionists and occupational health staff for the use and implementation of a respiratory protection programme in healthcare facilities.
