Actualización Epidemiológica Brotes de Influenza Aviar y las implicaciones para la salud pública en la Región de las Américas (3 de diciembre de 2022)

Abstract
De acuerdo con la Organización Mundial de Salud Animal (OMSA), la temporada epidémica de la Influenza aviar de alta patogenicidad (IAAP) continúa con brotes en aves de corral y brotes notificados en aves distintas de las aves de corral, principalmente en las Regiones de Europa y América. En el periodo epidémico actual, el subtipo H5N1 es el predominante y por primera vez se ha registrado una persistencia inusual del virus en aves silvestres durante los meses de verano (1, 2). De acuerdo con el patrón estacional de la IAAP1 se espera que el número de brotes aumente en los próximos meses y la OMSA recomienda que los países mantengan y refuercen sus esfuerzos de vigilancia, las medidas de bioseguridad en granjas, y continúen con la notificación oportuna de brotes de influenza aviar tanto en aves como en especies no avícolas. La calidad de la vigilancia es clave para la detección temprana y la respuesta oportuna ante amenazas potenciales para la salud animal con impacto en la salud pública.
