Resumo
This fact sheet highlights the heavy toll that suicide takes on individuals, families, and communities in the Region of the Americas. However, it stresses that there is hope and that much can be done to improve suicide prevention. It explains how PAHO is working with Member States to prioritize suicide prevention on public health and policy agendas, and that PAHO is supporting the development of comprehensive and multisectoral national suicide prevention strategies, and the implementation of tools and guidelines for suicide prevention. The fact sheet summarizes key effective interventions for suicide prevention and gives a brief outline of the LIVE LIFE approach to suicide prevention. It also provides links to useful resources, including virtual courses available from PAHO’s Virtual Campus for Public Health.
