This fact sheet highlights the relationship between alcohol consumption and cardiovascular disease. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, which cause 1.9 million deaths per year in the Americas and are the leading cause of death in the world. The fact sheet outlines the association of alcohol use with cardiovascular disease and provides recommendations about alcohol consumption in relation to heart health.
