[Introduction] The Secretariat of the Advisory Committee on Health Research (ACHR) convened the 42nd Meeting of the Committee at the request of the Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau (PASB), Dr. Mirta Roses Periago, as a follow-up to the 41st Meeting of the ACHR held at PAHO Headquarters in Washington, D.C., United States, from 29-30 November 2007.
