Abstract
HIGHLIGHTS: World Health Day, 7 April. On World Health Day, PAHO Director Dr. Carissa F. Etienne noted that COVID-19 has exposed inequalities that are barriers to health for far too many people and called on leaders to promote equity. First COVID-19 vaccines by COVAX arrive in Suriname. On 30 March, Suriname received its first COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX facility. The arrival marked a historic step toward ensuring the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, in the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. This delivery was part of the first phase of deliveries for Suriname, with more vaccines expected to arrive successively during 2021. Watch PAHO’s video regarding the arrival of vaccines in Suriname. 2021 COVID-19 Response Strategy and Donor Appeal: PAHO published a new appeal to continue supporting Member States in their fight against COVID-19.
