[Extract]. Immunization Programs in the Region of the Americas in the Context of COVID-19. COVID-19 is a communicable disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The COVID-19 pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 12 March 2020, and to date more than 31 million cases and 967,000 deaths have been reported worldwide1.
