Abstract
El síndrome de Guillain-Barré (SGB) es una polirradiculoneriropatia inflamatoria aguda de evolución rápida y potencialmente fatal, es una enfermedad autoinmune, autolimitada, desencadenada generalmente por un proceso infeccioso; es considerada una neuropatía periférica aguda relativamente rara (ocurren anualmente entre 1 y 2 casos por cada 100,000 personas), cursa con trastornos somáticos motores y sensitivos, así como con manifestaciones disautonómicas. Los pacientes desarrollan una parálisis motor, clásicamente ascendente, que comienza en los miembros inferiores, progresa en horas o días a los músculos del tronco, de los miembros superiores, cervicales y de inervación craneal (por ejemplo, músculos faciales, de la deglución y de la fonación). Puede provocar discapacidad prolongada que puede tratarse con rehabilitación; en 30% de los pacientes, el curso de la enfermedad puede ser fulminante, con evolución rápida que requiere asistencia ventilatoria a los pocos días...
