Abstract
Between 1 January 2019 and 24 January 2020, a total of 20,430 confirmed cases of measles, including 19 deaths, have been reported in 14 countries and territories of the Region of the Americas: Argentina (114 cases), the Bahamas (3 cases), Brazil (18,073 cases, including 15 deaths), Canada (113 cases), Chile (12 cases), Colombia (242 cases, including 1 death), Costa Rica (10 cases), Cuba (1 case), Curaçao (1 case), Mexico (20 cases), Peru (2 cases), the United States of America (1,282 cases), Uruguay (9 cases), and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (548 cases, including 3 deaths). Brazil accounts for 88% of the total confirmed cases reported in the Americas. Since the PAHO/WHO Epidemiological Update on Measles published on 13 December 2019 and until 24 January 2020, there has been a 29% increase in the total number of confirmed cases of measles reported, with 5 countries reporting additional confirmed cases: Argentina (29 cases), Brazil (3,669 cases), Chile (1 case), Colombia (12 cases), and the United States (6 cases); Argentina and Chile have reported confirmed cases in 2020.
 
Desde el 1 de enero de 2019 al 24 de enero de 2020 se notificaron 20.430 casos confirmados de sarampión, incluidas 19 defunciones, en 14 países y territorios de la Región: Argentina (114 casos), Bahamas (3 casos), Brasil (18.073 casos, incluidas 15 defunciones), Canadá (113 casos), Chile (12 casos), Colombia (242 casos, incluida 1 defunción), Costa Rica (10 casos), Cuba (1 caso), Curazao (1 caso), los Estados Unidos de América (1.282 casos), México (20 casos), Perú (2 casos), Uruguay (9 casos) y la República Bolivariana de Venezuela (548 casos, incluidas 3 defunciones) (Figura 1). Brasil contribuyó el 88% del total de los casos confirmados en las Américas. Desde la Actualización Epidemiológica de sarampión publicada el 13 de diciembre de 2019 y hasta el 24 de enero de 2020, hubo un incremento de 29% en el total de casos confirmados, dado que 5 países notificaron casos confirmados adicionales: Argentina (29 casos), Brasil (3.669 casos), Chile (1 caso), Colombia (12 casos) y Estados Unidos de América (6 casos); Argentina y Chile notificaron casos confirmados en 2020.
