On 25 July 2003, the first native case of malaria was reported to the Department of Health of Palm Beach, Florida. As a result, investigations undertaken have identified that a total of 7 cases of Plasmodium vivax malaria occurred between 12 July and 29 August 2003. All cases involved males living in Palm Beach, with an average age of 37, ranging from 17 to 45. Onset of symptoms for the first four cases occurred in July and, for the last three, in August. El 25 de Julio de 2003, se notificó el primer caso autóctono de malaria al Departamento de Salud del Condado de Palm Beach, Florida. A raíz de este evento, se han investigado un total de 7 casos de infección por P. vivax de adquisición local, producidas entre el 12 de julio y el 29 de agosto de 2003. Todos los casos fueron varones residentes de Palm Beach, con una media de edad de 37 años y un rango comprendido entre los 17 y los 45 años. Los cuatro primeros casos presentaron síntomas en el mes de julio y los tres últimos durante el mes de agosto.
