Since our last update of 19 February 2004, 1 new human case of avian influenza has been reported, bring the total to 32 cases and 22 deaths. To date, 2 Asian countries have reported cases in humans; and 8, epizootics of influenza A subtype H5N1 in birds. The outbreaks detected in the USA and Canada do not correspond to the highly pathogenic strain of avian flu (H5N1) currently in circulation in the Asian countries. Desde nuestra última actualización (19 de febrero de 2004), se ha notificado 1 nuevo caso de influenza aviar en humanos, lo que hace un total de 32 casos y 22 muertes. Hasta el momento, 2 países asiáticos han notificado casos en humanos; y 8 países, epizootias de influenza H5N1 en aves. Los brotes detectados en EUA y Canadá no corresponden a la cepa de influenza aviar altamente patógena (H5N1) que circula en los países asiáticos.
