To follow up on the outbreak of bat-transmitted human rabies detected in the city of Portel, state of Pará, Brazil, in January 2004, the last report on 8 April indicates that 8 cases have been confirmed since our update of 2 April, bringing the total to 13 cases of confirmed human rabies. Another 4 people are considered suspected cases, of which 2 have died. Test results will be available shortly. En seguimiento al brote de rabia humana transmitida por murciélagos que se detectó en el municipio de Portel, estado de Pará en el mes de enero de 2004, el último informe del 8 de abril indica que se han confirmado 8 casos respecto a la última actualización, lo que hace un total de 13 casos de rabia humana confirmados. Otros cuatro pacientes continúan siendo sospechosos. Dos de los casos sospechosos han fallecido y se tendrán los resultados de los exámenes realizados en breve.
