Epidemiological Alert, Update: Dengue Situation in the Americas (5 March 2009)

Abstract

In the period from 2001 to 2007, more than 30 countries of the Americas have reported a total of 4,332,731 dengue cases (PAHO, 2008). During the same period, the number of cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) was 106,037, with 1,299 deaths and a case-fatality rate of 1.2%. All four dengue serotypes circulated in the Region (DEN-1, 2, 3 and 4).

En el periodo de 2001 a 2007, más de 30 países de las Américas han notificado un total de 4.332.731 casos de dengue (OPS, 2008). En el mismo período, el número de casos de dengue hemorrágico fue 106.037, con 1.299 defunciones y una tasa de letalidad de 1,2%. Los cuatro serotipos del dengue circularon en la Región (DEN-1, 2, 3 y 4).
