Abstract
Since October 2008, an intense increase in the circulation of the jungle yellow fever (JYF) virus has been observed in the Americas, affecting Argentina and Brazil in the southern part of the continent, Colombia and Venezuela in the Andean region, and Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. The objective of this communication is to alert the countries of the Region so that they can strengthen their surveillance, prevention, and control activities for yellow fever within their territories and for persons traveling towards affected or risk areas.
 
Desde octubre de 2008, se viene observando en las Américas una intensa circulación del virus de la fiebre amarilla (VFA) de transmisión selvática, afectando en el sur del continente a Argentina y Brasil, en el área Andina a Colombia y Venezuela, y a Trinidad y Tobago en el Caribe. El objetivo de esta comunicación es alertar a los países de la Región para que refuercen las actividades de vigilancia, prevención y control de la fiebre amarilla en sus territorios y a los viajeros dirigiéndose hacia las áreas afectadas o vulnerables.
