Starting in Epidemiological Week (EW) 41, an increase in acute diarrhea cases, with severe cases and deaths, was observed in the departments of Artibonite and Central. In EW 42, isolation of V. cholerae O: 1 serotype Ogawa was confirmed in samples from hospitalized patients. Preliminary data as of EW 431, provided by the Ministry of Public Health and Population, show that hospitalizations due to cholera totaled 4,722, 85.3% of which were patients 5 years of age and over, 52.4% males, and 47.6% females. The departments with confirmed cases are: Artibonte (76.5%), Central (22.9%), Nord-Est and Nord. The cumulative incidence rate for Artibonite Department is 28 cases/10,000 inhabitants, and for Central Department is 19 cases/10,000 inhabitants. A partir de la Semana Epidemiológica (SE) 41, en Haití se registró un incremento de enfermedad diarreica aguda, con casos graves y defunciones, en los departamentos de Artibonite y Central. En la SE 42, se confirmó el aislamiento de V. cholerae O:1 serotipo Ogawa en muestras de pacientes hospitalizados. Datos preliminares proporcionados por el Ministerio de Salud Publica y Población de Haití para la SE 431, muestran que los hospitalizados por cólera totalizaban 4.722, de los cuales el 85,3% eran pacientes de 5 o más años de edad, el 52,4% eran del sexo masculino y el 47,6% femenino. Los departamentos que actualmente presentan mayor registro de casos son Artibonite (76,5%) y Central (22,9%). Los departamentos de Nord’Est y Nord también registran casos. La tasa de incidencia acumulada para el departamento de Artibonite es de 28 casos/10.000 habitantes y para el departamento Central de 19 casos/10.000 habitantes.
