Abstract

During 2012, up to Epidemiological Week (EW) 42, there have been a total of 982,142 dengue cases at the regional level (incidence rate of 180 per hundred thousand inhabitants), 23,925 deaths and 521 severe cases. All four serotypes (DEN1, DEN2, DEN3 and DEN4) are circulating in all of the Americas. The highest incidence rate has been recorded in the Southern Cone (242.54 per hundred thousand inhabitants) where 58.1% of total dengue deaths in the continent have been concentrated. Hasta la Semana Epidemiológica (SE) 42 del 2012, a nivel Regional se han registrado un total de 982.142 casos de dengue (incidencia de 180 por cien mil habitantes), 23.925 casos graves y 521 defunciones. Los 4 serotipos (DEN1, DEN2, DEN3 y DEN4) están circulando en toda las Américas. La incidencia más alta se registró en el Cono Sur (242,54 por cien mil hab.) en el que también se concentró el 58,1% del total de las defunciones por dengue del continente.
