In July 2015, Brazil reported the detection of patients with neurological syndromes who had recent history of Zika virus infection in the state of Bahia. There were 76 patients with neurological syndromes identified of which 42 (55%) were confirmed as Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Among the confirmed cases of GBS, 26 (62%) had a history of symptoms consistent with Zika virus infection. In addition, 7 patients presenting with neurologic syndromes were confirmed to be positive for Zika virus infection in November 2015. In 2015, a total of 1708 cases of GBS have been registered nationwide, representing a 19% increase from the previous year (1,439 cases). En julio de 2015, Brasil informó sobre la detección de pacientes con síndromes neurológicos que tenían antecedentes recientes de infección por el virus Zika en el estado de Bahía. Se registraron 76 pacientes con síndromes neurológicos de los cuales 42 (55%) fueron confirmados como Síndrome de Guillain - Barré (SGB). Entre los casos confirmados de SGB 26 (62 %) tenían antecedentes de síntomas compatibles con infección por el virus Zika. Adicionalmente en noviembre de 2015, se confirmó la infección por virus Zika en 7 pacientes con síndromes neurológicos. Durante el 2015 se registró un total de 1.708 casos de SGB en todo el país, lo que representó un aumento del 19 % respecto al año anterior (1.439 casos).
