Abstract
The Annual Report on Epidemiological Alerts and Updates 2014 covers the most important public health events of international concern that occurred during said year in the Region of the Americas; they are events that compelled the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) to issue recommendations to Member States...In 2014, PAHO/WHO tracked 132 events; of those, after conducting a risk assessment, 61 (46%) were considered international events of public health concern. Those events were reported in 24 Member States and 5 territories, and 67% dealt with infectious diseases; 13% were related to food safety; 8% were of anthropozoonotic origin; 5% were related to contaminated products; 3% were natural disasters; 2% were radionuclear in origin; and 2% were chemical risks.
 
El Informe Anual de Alertas y Actualizaciones Epidemiológicas 2014 recopila los eventos de salud pública de importancia internacional más relevantes que ocurrieron ese año en la Región de las Américas y sobre los cuales la Organización Panamericana de la Salud/Organización Mundial de la Salud (OPS/OMS) emitió recomendaciones a los Estados Miembros...En 2014, la OPS/OMS dio seguimiento a 132 eventos, de los cuales, luego de la evaluación de riesgo, 61 (46%) fueron de importancia para la salud pública internacional. De esos eventos relevantes, que se registraron en 24 Estados Miembros y 5 Territorios, 67% fueron por enfermedades infecciosas, 13% estuvieron relacionados a la inocuidad de los alimentos, 8% fueron de origen antropozoonóticas, 5% relacionados a mercancía contaminada, 3% a desastres naturales, 2% eventos de origen radionuclear y 2% de origen químico.
