From Alma-Ata to Universal Health: 40 Years of Images

Abstract

In 1978, during the International Conference on Primary Health Care in Almaty (formerly Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan), world leaders made the historic commitment to achieve “health or all,” by signing the Declaration of Alma-Ata and formally affirming the core values of the right to health, equity, and solidarity. The Declaration positioned primary health care (PHC) as the most equitable and effective strategy to strengthen health systems and guarantee the right to health as a fundamental human right...To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Declaration, this photo album was prepared to highlight PAHO’s contributions to the implementation of the Primary Health Care Strategy in the Americas and to honor the “champions” who have relentlessly advocated for the health of all people and their communities.

En 1978, durante la Conferencia Internacional sobre Atención Primaria de Salud en Almaty (anteriormente Alma-Ata, Kazajstán), los líderes mundiales llegaron al compromiso histórico de lograr la “Salud para todos”, al firmar la Declaración de Alma-Ata y afirmar formalmente los valores fundamentales del derecho a la salud, la equidad y la solidaridad. La Declaración posicionó a la atención primaria de salud (APS) como la estrategia más equitativa y eficaz para fortalecer los sistemas de salud y garantizar el derecho a la salud como un derecho humano fundamental...Para conmemorar el 40 aniversario de la Declaración, este libro de fotos fue preparado para resaltar las contribuciones de la OPS a la implementación de la Estrategia de Atención Primaria de Salud en las Américas y honrar a los heroes que han abogado implacablemente por la salud de las personas y sus comunidades.
