Lexicon of alcohol and drug terms

Abstract

This publications in a companion volume to the Lexicon of Psychiatric and mental health terms, and provides clinicians, researchers, teachers, and other interested parties with definitions of a large number of terms concerned with various aspects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Definitions generally deal with psychoactive effects of substances, sympotomatology, sequelae, and therapeutic indications. Links are established with the Tenth Revisionof the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10): wherever appropriate, diagnostic category codes from ICD-10 are provided, either for specific terms or in the course of their definitions. There has been no attempt to cover every term that might be encountered in the context of drug and alcohol use; for instance, there is little coverage of areas such as the production and marketing of licit and illicit drugs, slang terms, and technical terms from particular scientific disciplines.
