Abstract

This video film highlights events that have shaped the history of WHO from its origins in 1948 to the present. Intended to show how the Organization works to protect the world's health, the film brings viewers face-to-face with the main diseases, in rich and poor countries alike, from the vanquished smallpox to the new plague of AIDS, that have been attacked by WHO during the past 40 years. The film is both a record of many clear successes and a catalogue of diseases and human suffering that will continue to occupy WHO through the end of this century
