dc.description.abstractThe Pan American Health Organization established the following strategies to help the countries decrease the magnitude and frequency of the main health problems affecting to adults and elders: promotion of health and chances in lifestyles through interventions, specially those directed to the entire population; an analysis and rationalization of the use of complex and expensive technologies to correct major inequities and avoid unnecessary costs. The following problems in the field are described: noncommunicable diseases, risk factors and other pathological and social conditions including drug addiction, alcoholism, accidental injuries as well as mental illnesses and neurologic disordersen_US
