In 1952, PAHO/WHO established a Representative Office in Mexico. Until 1984, this office also served Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. PAHO/WHO’s work in Mexico involves various challenges: contributing to the development of national health institutions with high scientific standards, supporting national and local efforts to control and eliminate infectious diseases that remain prevalent, and contributing to health initiatives for the aging population and in response to the increase in non-communicable diseases and the risks posed by unhealthy behaviors.
