Abstract
La tuberculosis constituía un problema grave de salud pública en Haití desde mucho antes de la epidemia de SIDA. La infección causada por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) es el factor de riesgo más importante para el desarrollo de tuberculosis en las personas infectadas por Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Haití tiene la máxima seroprevalencia de VIH en las Américas. De ahí que la asociación entre SIDA y tuberculosis, dos importantes causas independientes de mortalidad de adultos, haya tenido un efecto devastador para la salud pública. La gravedad de la situación exige que los programas de lucha contra la tuberculosis y el SIDA unan sus esfuerzos. Urge multiplicar los esfuerzos para prevenir y detectar casos de tuberculosis y de infección por VIH y asegurar el complimiento del tratamiento
