Abstract
El objetivo de este artículo es describir un sistema de información gerencial (SIG) que Diseño la División de Sistemas y Servicios de Salud de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) en colaboración con técnicos de distintas nacionalidades. El SIG, metodología empleada en el ámbito institucional o nacional de más de 21 países de la Región, es un instrumento estratégico, práctico y de fácil aplicación, interpretación y uso, cuyo fín es agilizar cambios fundamentales en la gestión sanitaria. Está fundado en un concepto de la gerencia en la que los insumos, procesos y resultados son susceptibles de cuantificación. El SIG pone especial énfasis en la productividad de los sistemas de salud, condición esencial para alcanzar coberturas de salud adecuadas y a la vez equitativas
