Abstract
Con el próposito de conocer las recomendaciones que dan los expendedores de medicamentos en farmacias frente a un caso de diarrea, las farmacias de tres ciudades bolivianas fueron visitadas por encuestadores que dijeron tener una niño con diarrea. Menos del 2 por ciento de los expendedores recomendaron usas sales de rehidratación oral, incrementar la administración de líquidos o consultar con un médico. La mayor parte recomendaron antimicrobianos, antidiarreicos o ambos. No se disponía de sales de rehidratación oral en casi dos terceras partes de los establecimientos visitados y aquellos que disponían de las sales raramente las ofrecieron. Esta investigación permitió reconocer la falta de integración de estos profesionales en el esquema de capacitación de la Secretaría de Salud y como consecuencia se iniciaron actividades para resolver el problema
