The author presents a study of agencies in the Americas concerned with water supply and sewerage systems. General information, concepts, and over-all tendencies are given in the first part, which outlines the most significant advances and trends, and several starting points are indicated for making more complete studies of the subject, in line with the goals set forth in the Charger of Punta del Este. The second part describes the institutions engaged in this field of activity in 20 countries of the Hemisphere. Two tables provide data on the individual countries: one on land area, population, and socioeconomic indicators; and the other on national and local agencies concerned with water supply and sewerage systems, and on special laws or funds created during the period 1961-1965en_US
