The article deals with the need for developing a new methodology and conducting laboratory and field studies to solve the water supply problems in the Hemisphere. In the task ahead research will therefore play an essential part. A review is made of the efforts of several Latin American countries to organize their human, technical, and financial resources through national research councils. Mention is made of various types of resources through which the program could be expanded, either by creating regional centers to serve several countries, or by promoting interuniversity relations and various types of international or intergovernmental technical assistance. Research projects that might be undertaken are indicated and the establishment of an advisory body for research on water resources in Latin America, is suggested, since this body could point up needed research, obtain the necessary technical and financial assistance, promote information on the scientific resources available, and faster communication among the various researchers
