In the light of recent data on the appearance of brucellosis in Haiti, a serological survey was carried out between September 1961 and April 1963 in a rural area between the nothern and sourthern mountain systems of Haiti. Sera from 1,023 persons who were in contact with animals, in particular cattle, by reason of their occupation; from 21 dairy cows; and from 118 head of cattle intended for slaughter, were serologically tested for Br.abortus agglutinins by means of the plate agglutination test with antigen from CEPANZO (Pan American Zoonosis Center) and from the Fort Dodge laboratories in the United States; 273 samples of milk from dairy cows in the area were tested by the ring test with CEPANZO antigen. An appraisal of the results according to the criteria of the FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Brucellosis showed that no positive serum indicating Bruecella infections was found in the 1,023 samples of human sera that were tested. The percentage of positive sera in cattle intended for slaughter was 1.4 percent. No agglutination reaction was detected in the specimens of sera taken from dairy cattle; the ring test was negative. In conclusion, this serological survey provided no evidence of Br. abortus infection in the various groups of agricultural workers, slaughterhouse employees, and dairy farm employees in the area covered. It showed that the incidence in the cattle tested was only slight. While
