This paper deals with the problems inherent in professional training in venereal diseases, which are similar in all countries. Data from a survey made by the International Union Against the Venereal Diseases in cooperation with the World Health Organization show that although medical schools throughout the world have the basic elements for teaching venereology, such elements need to be expanded and directed toward those aspects of venereal disease of greater importance at the present time. The role of simplified treatment in the present lack of interest in venereal diseases and the little attention devoted to it in medical training is examined. Relevant data from medical schools in the United States are given, steps to be taken are suggested, and information is given on programs under way in that country, their scope, and the participation of professionals and health agencies
