This article describes the methods used in the United States to overcome the existing lack of interst in teaching or doing research on venereal diseases because their treatment has become greatly simplified. An example cited is that of the practice adopted in an outpatient clinic in a university hospital of New York City, where serological tests are given at the request of outpatients. The clinical material collected is sent to the general clinic, where cases and contact tracing are assigned to medical students under the supervision of an instructor
