Abstract
The integration of psychiatric ideas into the general nursing curriculum depends in large measure on an understanding of the nature of illness; this understanding must be based ona knowledge of man, of his growth and development, and of the social and cultural forces that influence his behavior from the time of conception

Nurses need a broad general educational background which includes sociology, psychology, and economics and which will help them understand the various environmental factors that produce stress in their culture or commmunity. They should also be able to apply the scientific method in solving a problem, that is, to define it, to collect data relating to it, to formulate an hypothesis, and determine its correctness in solving the problem(AU)
