The dietetics services both inside and outside the hospital are becoming increasingly complex and should therefore be headed by persons with a broad knowledge of nutrition sciences and administrative methods In some countries, dietetics departments in hospitals have been assigned specific duties in administration, diet therapy, personnel training, and research. Their sphere of action is therefore not confined to nutrition services alone, but is also closely linked to the other department with which they cooperate, thus enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of the needs and problems of these A dietitian-administrator has the following duties, among others: a) to plan the activities, which is considered essential to the performance of administrative duties; b) to organize such specific activities as food preparation, storage and preservation, diets, sanitary techniques, duty assignments, compliance with institutional standards, equipment maintenance, educational programs, records and reports, etc., by centralizing all of them and delagating authority and assigning specific responsibility to the members of her staff; c) to direct and guide the personnel, and promote the abilities of her colleagues; d) to represent her department by participating in the hospital's management and educational activities; and e) to evaluate her own position, the programs, and the performance of her ...(AU)
