Abstract
The nutritionist-dietitian must have sufficient knowledge and skills to allow her to play a key role in the dietary and nutrition programs of integrated health services, which operate basically through health centers and hospitals

She must participate in the planning of every phase of these programs. One of the most important of these phases, because of the scarcity of qualified personnel in Latin America, is the education and training of professional and subprofessional personnel that will cooperate with her in the health and nutrition education of the community

She must cooperate also in programs of nutrition education, recuperation, and supplementary diet which the health center carries out, and in similar activities at the hospital she should test her teaching abilities in school health programs, especially those aimed at the mother and child; and she should organize, supervize, and evaluate these programs

On the basis of the nutrition and dietary service included in an integrated public health program, her knowledge should include: basic training in nutrition; a knowlege of foods; experience in organizing and administering food services; and basic notions of public health(AU)
