Although "Trap No. 4" has some features in common with the guillotine type trap(operation, sensitivity and effectiveness), this new model has advantages over the guillotine type because it permits the caputre of live rodentsen_US
The trap proposed here consists of a wooden platform which has, at its back and sides, two small strips of perforated tin (ears); a wire support 70 cm long and 3 mm in diameter; a small wire mesh basket; a trigger where the bait is placed, and a spring. The last two are accessories of the guillotine type trap. The wire support, which is activated by the spring, is joined to the wooden platform or base by means of two clampsen_US
The capture of live rodents makes it possible to ascertain, among other things, the degree of natural immunity of the wild life belonging to the endemic area; it makes the hemagglutination test feasible; and it permits the determination of the cricetid-flea index. Likewise, it facilitates effective control of active pest foci with the consequent decrease in morbidity and mortality(AU)en_US
