Abstract
National Committees on Vital and Health Statistics grew out of the need for coordinating the activities of the various agencies involved in the collection and compilation of vital statistics in a number of countries, and for a mechanism which made possible national and international development of statistics in the field of health
 
At the recommendation of the First World Health Assembly, the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics was constituted in 1949 in the United States. Many important technical developments in vital and health statistics have been made through the stimulus and activities of this Committee
 
The structure and method of operation of the U.S. National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics is described in this article, as wel as some of the problems that are inherent in any committee organization and activity(AU)
