1) This study discusses whether there is any justification in Venezuela for the routine immunization of pregnant women against poliomyelitis 2) The distribution of cases of poliomyelitis in the age groups under 9 years and over 9 years of age, in Venezuela, in 1959, and in Maracaibo and the rural areas of the State of Zulia in the period 1950-1959 is shown 3) It points out that in the period 1950-1959 only one case of poliomyelitis in a pregnant woman came to the knowledge of the health unit in Maracaibo and that she was a foreigner 4) The results of a serological investigation of poliomyelitis antibodies in pregnant women in Maracaibo are given 5) The possible value of the titers found, as indicators of protection against poliomyelitis, is emphasized(AU)
