La estomatitis vesicular como zoonosis
Abstract
Vesicular stomatitis -a virus disease affecting cattle, hogs and horses in particular- has begun to attract the attention of interested agencies and individuals because of the frequency with which this disease is being detected in man. It is now quite clear that this disease can be transmitted to man under natural conditions and therefore constitutes a public health problem Since 1917, when the first case of vesicular stomatitis was discovered in the laboratory, its presence in man has been repeatedly demonstrated by means of complement fixation tests and seroneutralization It would appear that positivity increases with the age of the individual. This was demonstrated by Shelokov, Peralta, and Galindo in 1961, when they examined 490 serum specimens collected from individuals living near an area in which the vesicular stomatitis virus (Indiana type) had been isolated from a mixture of phlebotomus containing 27 percent of neutralizing antibodies. It was observed that in persons under 10 years of age the positivity rate was up to 14 percent and up to 35 percent in persons over age thirty The author also describes the morphology and characteristics of the causative organism as well as the symptomatology of the disease as described by various authors. He also draws attention to the need, in the case of symptoms -myalgia, throat pain, diarrhea, nauseas, hematuria and vision disturbances- for a ...(AU) La Estomatitis Vesicular no se ha diagnosticado en Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay y Caribe
