Abstract
If nurses are to keept abreast of the medical care and medical aid programs in national, regional or local health institutions and agencies continuing education in health is necessary. It enables them to keep up to date with changes and advances, and is the responsibility not only of the nurses themselves but also in large measure of the institutions in which they work, since that is where new knowledge can be provided and attendance at workshops, seminars, and training courses can be encouraged
 
While there is no problem in obtaining continuing education in urban communities, institutions located in rural areas have to depend on the government for encourangement, coordination, and development of educational programs specific for nurses thus eliminating fragmentation and duplication of efforts
 
As examples of continuing education programs in nursing, the author mentions those provided by the Public Health Nursing Division in Arizona, in the United States, primarily for nurses practicing in rural areas. They focus on up dating knowledge and aptitudes so as to enable nurses to provide better services
 
At the present time, nurses have opportunities of pursuing advanced training if they know how to use the sources at their disposal, such as professional publication, seminars, meetings and courses, by means of which they can keep themselves abreast of new scientific discoveries as applied to ...
