dc.description.abstractThe definition of the three basic concepts in obstretics showed that planning was a progressive and perfectible process: obstetrical services provided by the midwife and her team as a key element in the maternal and infant care program, which forms an integral part of the national health plan; and the graduate midwife as a key person who, within the frawork of the stipulated services, assists the population group with first priority: the nation's mothers and childrenen_US
dc.description.abstractIt was pointed out that the purpose of planning obstetrical services on national, regional and local levels, is to provide comprehensive care to the mother and child, with a major care focus on their family environment. Such planning was approached from the following standpoints: (1) the direct beneficiaries, mothers and children; (2) the obligations of the midwife in providing comprehensive maternal and infant care; (3) the normative model which will orient the program toward the desired purpose; (4) the responsibilities incumbent upon the discipline on each of the three levels; and (5) the nature of the comprehensive care to be provided by the professional and her team to mothers and children within existing conditions. Emphasis was placed upon the midwife's role as part of a multi-professional team whose members should plan and work in complete harmony to attain the goals of the maternal and infant care program.
