On the basis of the results of this study the following measures are recommended: 1=one. That health education be intensified so as (a) to make the public aware of the value of maternity care provided by qualified personnel; and (b) that the public be taught how to take better advantage of the various public health facilities for maternity care 2-two. That technical and administrative arrangements be made to attract pregnant women to welfare institutions through careful supervision of theinstitutions providing ante-natal care 3=three. That the staff of maternity institutions, bearing in mind the seriousness of the problem of maternity care being provided by untrained midwives, try to simplify administrative procedures and especially to improve human relations with pregnant women and members of their families 4=four. That the appropriate health agencies expand the registration, supervision, and training of untrained midwives in their area of jurisdiction 5=five. That in view of the light thrown on maternal and child health programs by the data presented in this article, similar studies be made in the health district of Mexico City so as to make it possible to have at any given time a complete picture of the maternity care being provided in the Federal District(AU)
