Abstract
The inter-American Investigation of Mortality in Childhood will lead to a better understanding of the health problems in infancy and early childhood in the Americas, and will lay the bases for effective action “to reduce the present mortality rate in children under 5 years of age by one half”-one of the goals of the Charter of Punta de1 Este.
